Mauerkunst - Storytelling alive
As a West-German teenager in the 1980’s, I grew up following street art and graffiti messages. The Berlin Wall 'die Mauer' as we called it was always the benchmark for street art. From here it spread to the rest of the country. The spray cans wrote political messages, mostly for peace. Some made me smile, some made me think. The street art painted was colourful, edgy and raw.
Fast forward to today and we are surrounded by a growing community of street artists. The work today is more refined, less busy but right ‘in your face’.
In Mauerkunst - storytellng alive I pay tribute to the walls around us by documenting them and shining a spotlight on street art and the people who create it.
What draws me to works such as these, are how the street art and graffiti are enhanced by the wall itself. The textures and colours, the look and feel of something not polished, which is flaky and weathered, but still vibrant, contributes in a unique way, to each piece.
All works are printed on stone. I wanted the images that were originally created on cement, mortar and brick to have a simular surface for the print.
